WORKSHOP ONLAND RIGHTS AND PAYMENT FOR ECOSYSTEM SERVICES (PES) MARKET

On 8th July, 2024, workshop on Land Rights and Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) Market was organised byRongmei Baptist Association of Nagaland (RBA) in collaboration with Zeliangrong Students’ Union and Eco Club of St Xavier College Jalukie, Nagaland. Reportedly, it was funded by Bread for the World – Germany.

Objectives of the event included:

  1. To spread the awareness of various schemes taken up by the NGOs and Govt of India.
  2. To broaden the mind of rural public about the benefits of carbon credit and payment for ecosystem services (PES) market.
  3. To encourage youngsters to have a brief knowledge about the affects or demerits of an alien species (plants).

Resource persons included Mrs. Akeina Gonmei, Dev secretary RBA & Julius Kamson, Manager RBA. Various environment enthusiasts including 7 Students of the College participated in the event.

The program began with an invocation prayer by the esteem principal Rev Dr Fr Francis S Cheerangal. Ma’am Akeina Gonmei highlighted on the importance and preservation of ecosystem to check loss of habitats amidst the rise of global warming. She also gave a vivid explanation about the side effects of an alien plants introduced by humans to a new environment.

Sir Julius Kamson, the speaker of the seminar, presented about the significance of Carbon Credit and payment for ecosystem services. He dealt on the importance of maintaining carbon credit and how it should be kept on check to avoid excessive use of carbon or to minimize the emission of CO² gas into the atmosphere.

The seminar, dealing on ‘carbon credit and payment for ecosystem services’, aims to spread public awareness about the various schemes that are being sanctioned by the Govt. of India to the NGOs, and also to educate the public with proper instructions and methods to avoid corruption within the rural areas.

The program concluded with group discussions and various feedbacks from participants clarifying their doubts. The program was a grand success acting as a starting point to spread beneficial information and guidelines to the public.
